Healthy Breakfast Smoothie..

Unlike many teenagers out there who wouldn't substitute an extra 15 minutes in bed than to have breakfast, I'm all for it. Essentially it's the most important meal of the day, but I too love my sleep. So recently, I've been looking for fast, quick and easy ways to have breakfast even for those who are short on time. I mean I'm not saying this next recipe is going to be a good as waffles or pancakes and maple syrup but it comes into its own for preparation time and convenience. And tastes really yummy too!

Ingredients: Makes 1/2 Glasses

1 Banana
10 Strawberries (fresh are best)
100ml of Natural Yoghurt (Any Flavour)
6 Ice Cubes
2tbsp of Natural Honey
50g of Granola (Any Brand)

Method:

  1. Peel and chop up your banana, into half a centimetre slices. This just makes it easier to blend.
  2. Now remove the stalks of your strawberries and give them a wash. Now chop them up into smaller chunks and add them to the blender.
  3. Now add your Natural Yoghurt, you can add more or less depending on how thick you like your smoothies. I used Yeo Valley 0% Vanilla Yoghurt as it's my favourite but any brand of natural yoghurt will do the job.
  4. Then add your ice cubes, again you can add more to make the smoothie thicker and it will also stay cooler for longer. 6 usually is enough for me.
  5. Now add your honey, the best way to add honey is to count out loud in seconds to convert it into table spoons. e.g 1 second = 1 tbsp. Honey is a great natural sweetener so you don't have to worry about any artificial sugars in this smoothie.
6.  And finally add your Granola, I've gone for whatever we had in the kitchen which was Quaker Oats but you can use your favourite. I really love Jordan's Granola but we were all out.

7. Place the lid on your blender and blend continuously for 1 minute. If your blender sounds like its struggling, tilt it slightly or stop it, stir the contents then turn it back on.

 8. You are looking for a smooth consistency and a vibrant pink colour. I kept a strawberry aside purely for decretive purposes (but you could just put it in a blender like every normal person would do).

9. Decant it into your favourite glass or in this case, jar/cup. If anyone is interested where I got this cup from it was the home section in Primark. I love the way they look so couldn't resist getting one.

So there you have it, a healthy, filling and quick breakfast smoothie that suites the health conscious or those who want an extra 10 minutes in bed. There are hundreds of ways you can customise this recipe to your liking, you could add any fruit you wanted and completely change the flavour. It can also be made the night before and kept in the fridge, an even quicker way to have a on the go breakfast. That and you're getting 2 of your 5 a day in this drink. The quantities can be doubled or tripled to suit how many people you're serving.

I hope you've enjoyed this recipe, and that you're now on your way to having some delicious smoothies!

Luke.
